THE PALACETE OF THE THREE NAMES
THE CLOCKMAKER'S HOUSE
A workshop stopped at 15:42 on some day in 1987. Every clock showed a different time except two, which ran perfectly in sync. At the back, a door with ironwork that did not belong to the house. It did not open. The video of us trying is on the channel.
THE BRICKED-UP CONVENT
They bricked up the windows in the nineties but left the good door untouched. Inside: a refectory with the table still laid, and an organ missing exactly 13 pipes. The comment section has still not forgiven me for that detail.
THE HOUSE THAT BURNED
The fire was in 2011 and the garden chair still faces the façade, as if somebody sat down to watch it burn and never got up again. The thumbnail photo is not edited. I wish it were.
THE RED CORRALA
A whole apartment block evicted in 2019 with a single red light that nobody has switched off since. We went up at night (bad idea) and the video has the best silly scare of the channel: it was a cat. I think.
THE GHOST BLOCK
Eighty flats, zero neighbours, and electricity meters that keep on spinning. The power company calls it "residual consumption". Twelve floors of residual consumption. Sure.
THE BUNKER OF THE FREIGHT LIFT
Under a 1960s cooperative store there is a freight lift in perfect condition. Clean. Greased. Light on. The down button worked. I did not press it. Second entry on my list of "places I will have to go back to".
THE RADIO RELAY STATION
A relay station closed "for restructuring" in 1998. The control panel still had two red pilot lights on, and the duty logbook ended mid-sentence. The word it cuts off on is "signal". The most commented video of the channel — until the palacete.
THE ENGLISHMAN'S MAUSOLEUM
A rich English mining man had himself buried behind temple doors brought over "from the colonies". The village calls it the ugly mausoleum. To me it was the most beautiful door I had ever seen... until EXP.12.
THE HOTEL ON THE CURVE
It closed when they rerouted the main road, and was left with all the beds made. In the second-floor corridor there is a television on the floor, facing room 13. Nobody on the team wanted to move it. Fair enough.
THE SCHOOL OF THE COMPUTERS
A school closed in 2003 with the computer room intact. Forty green-phosphor machines... and three of them, I swear on my flashlight, were warm. The video blew up and brought in half of the people reading this.
THE MOUNTAIN SANATORIUM
Green tiles, corridors that smell of 1954, and a steel door that matches nothing: ROOM 333. In a Spanish sanatorium, with the sign in English. First time a place asked me to leave. I left.
THE TURBINE FACTORY
Where it all began, with a borrowed camera and a half-dead memory card that only survived 13 photos. Metal corridors, cathedral echo, and the feeling that the place is esploring you back. Welcome to the rule of 13.
